About the company

West African Gold is a gold exploration company with assets in Burkina Faso, one of the world’s most attractive gold exploration locations. Burkina Faso is relatively unexplored compared to other countries in West Africa and for that matter, most gold provinces around the world. Over the last decade, five large gold deposits, each larger than one million ounces, have been found in Burkina Faso and new discoveries continue to be made. Burkina Faso’s discovery cost of gold is less than half the average cost for West Africa and the Western World. Apart from the Country’s highly prospective geology, the Burkina Faso Government proactively welcomes exploration and mining investment with a clearly defined investment and taxation environment. As such the Directors view Burkina Faso as one of the most cost-effective places in the world to explore for gold. West African Gold currently has the right to acquire a portfolio of seven gold exploration licences, covering a total area of 1,477km2 of prospective Birimian geology in Burkina Faso. Importantly, all of these projects include prospective geology, attractive structural setting and areas of historic or current artisanal gold mining. To date, the Company has focused its initial exploration activities on four of its seven tenements; Koutakou, Samba, Pibaoré and Baskondo. All projects are located within the highly prospective Birimian greenstone belt which has yielded the majority of gold resources in West Africa. West African Gold is led by a team with significant international exploration experience. Steven Tambanis (Managing Director), who has successfully led exploration campaigns internationally for gold and base metals projects, will be responsible for the exploration program. Richard Schodde (Non-Executive Director), will provide advice on the strategic and commercial aspects of the exploration programs. Stephen Biggins (Non-Executive Chairman) is an experienced exploration geologist with international corporate experience and Greg English (Non-Executive Director) has a mining, legal and commercial background. West African Gold’s exploration activities to date have included geochemical sampling, mapping, geophysics and satellite imagery analysis, and geological data reviews. A number of anomalies and potential drill targets have been identified across each of the tenements as a result of this preliminary work. Further work on these anomalies is expected to prioritise these targets for drilling. West African Gold’s strategy is to continue the exploration and development of its assets, with a primary focus on prioritising projects based on their prospectivity. The Company’s objective is to delineate a substantial gold resource base in the near to medium term and to ultimately develop downstream gold mining operations. |
